Coding Programs
Grades 1 – 10
At Megamind Learning Centre, students build coding skills through a clear progression of Scratch Game Design, Roblox Game Design, and Python. Each program is divided into levels so students can start with age-appropriate foundations, practise new concepts through hands-on activities, and advance toward creating more independent projects and games.
Scratch Game Design (Grades 1 – 4)
- Level 1 – Story Creators: Students begin with story design using sprites, backgrounds, movement, dialogue, sequences, coordination, and timing. They learn how coding can control characters and bring an idea to life.
- Level 2 – Interactive Builders: Students add events, loops, conditional statements, and coordinated actions so their stories and projects can respond to the user.
- Level 3 – Game Mechanics: Students work with variables, keyboard inputs, scoring, and more advanced logic while beginning to build playable projects.
- Level 4 – Game Designers: Students bring the concepts together to plan, build, test, debug, and improve complete Scratch games.
Roblox Game Design (Grades 4 – 8)
- Level 1 – Roblox Studio Foundations: Students learn how to create 3D worlds and games using Roblox Studio and its built-in tools and functions. They explore game design, objects, properties, and how different elements work together.
- Level 2 – Lua Programming: Students move beyond built-in functions and begin programming game functions themselves using Lua. Lua introduces syntax and programming concepts that are similar to those used in modern programming languages.
- Level 3 – Roblox Game Developer: Students combine scripting, game mechanics, testing, and debugging to create more complete and interactive Roblox games.
Python Programming (Grades 6 – 10)
- Level 1 – Python Beginner: Students learn basic syntax, variables, input and output, and core programming constructs while developing small but functional Python programs.
- Level 2 – Python Intermediate: Students strengthen program flow using loops, conditionals, and functions while solving increasingly complex coding problems.
- Level 3 – Python Developer: Students work with data structures and object-oriented programming to create organized, reusable, and more advanced code.
What Happens in a Coding Class?
- One-Hour Intensive Sessions: Each class is one hour in duration and is designed to keep students actively coding and applying new concepts.
- Debugging: Students identify errors, test possible fixes, and learn how to improve their code.
- Exercises and Challenge Questions: Short exercises reinforce each concept, while challenge questions encourage independent thinking and problem-solving.
- Classwork and Homework: Students apply concepts through guided classwork and continue practising between lessons with homework.

FAQ-Coding Classes
What is the right program for my child?
We offer programs tailored to different age groups and skill levels, ensuring a perfect fit for your child’s learning journey.
What equipment is needed for the classes?
We provide all necessary equipment and software for in-person classes. For online sessions, students will need a computer with internet access.
Are all your coding programs game-based?
Scratch and Roblox are strongly project- and game-based, allowing students to learn coding concepts while creating stories, interactive projects, and games. Python uses hands-on programs, exercises, and challenges to build text-based programming skills.
How do game-based programs benefit my child’s learning?
Game-based learning makes coding enjoyable and interactive. It allows students to understand complex concepts by actively participating in game development, which enhances problem-solving skills, creativity, and logical thinking.
Will my child be able to create their own game?
Absolutely! As students progress through our programs, they gain the skills needed to design, build, and even launch their own games, from simple projects to more complex, fully interactive games.
Is any prior coding experience required for these programs?
No prior coding experience is needed. Our game-based programs are designed to cater to beginners, starting with simple concepts and gradually introducing more advanced elements as students gain confidence.
How do you ensure that the programs remain age-appropriate?
We tailor each program to the specific age group, ensuring the content, games, and activities are appropriate and engaging. This way, students are challenged but not overwhelmed.
What software or tools are used in your programs?
We use Scratch for younger learners, Roblox Studio for 3D game design and Lua scripting, and Python for older students who are ready for text-based programming.
Can my child continue coding at home after attending your classes?
Yes, students can access the software used in our programs at home, allowing them to continue their coding journey and work on their games outside of class hours.
How do these game-based programs prepare my child for future opportunities in technology?
Our programs introduce essential coding concepts and problem-solving techniques that form the foundation for future learning. The hands-on experience in game design builds skills applicable to many areas in technology, including software development and computer science.
Are coding classes one hour in duration?
Yes. Each coding class is one hour in duration. The sessions are intensive and include instruction, debugging, exercises, challenge questions, classwork, and homework so students spend the hour actively learning and applying coding concepts.
Can my child attend more than one class per week?
Yes, your child can attend multiple sessions per week if they wish to progress faster. This flexibility allows them to advance at their own pace and gain more hands-on experience.
What is the maximum class size?
Our classes are kept small, with a maximum of 4-6 students per class. This ensures personalized attention from the instructor and a more engaging learning environment.
Will attending multiple sessions per week help my child learn faster?
Yes, attending more sessions each week allows your child to reinforce their learning, practice more frequently, and advance through the program at an accelerated pace.
How do small class sizes benefit my child’s learning experience?
Small class sizes allow our instructors to provide individualized support, ensuring each student receives the guidance they need to understand coding concepts, troubleshoot issues, and succeed in their projects.
