WHAT IS AN ABACUS?
The Abacus is a tool used to perform mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
WHAT IS ABACUS MENTAL MATH?
Abacus Mental Math is a program offered by Megamind Learning Centre which teaches students how to use the Abacus and perform mathematical operations in their minds.
WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO START THIS ABACUS MENTAL MATH PROGRAM?
Through years of experience and research, Megamind Learning Centre recommends the Abacus Mental Math Program to students between ages four to thirteen years.
WHY IS THIS PROGRAM ONLY FOR CHILDREN IN THE AGE GROUP OF 4 TO 13 YEARS?
The brain is still growing between the ages of four to thirteen years. This allows for children to grasp concepts easily and with speed.
HOW MANY CLASSES ARE CONDUCTED IN A WEEK?
The Abacus Mental Math Program includes one class per week. The duration of this class is usually two hours.
ARE THERE DIFFERENT LEVELS IN THE PROGRAM?
The Megamind Abacus Mental Math Program involves different levels with a new level unlocked after a written assessment. There are eleven levels for students in the age range of four to six years and eight levels for students ages seven and up.
WHAT IS THE DURATION OF EACH LEVEL?
Megamind Learning Centre understands that each student works at their own pace. Each level usually takes students approximately three months to complete.
DO YOU ALSO CONDUCT ABACUS MENTAL MATH COMPETITIONS?
Yes, we conduct an Annual Abacus Competition between students at all of our locations. Please ask the Chief Educator at your location for any upcoming competitions.
WHEN DOES MY CHILD GET PROMOTED TO THE NEXT LEVEL? ARE ANY CERTIFICATES GIVEN?
A written assessment is conducted at the end of every level. On successful completion of the level, the child will be promoted to the next level and a certificate of successful completion is awarded.

DO YOU OFFER IB, IBT, SCITECH PREP CLASSES?
Yes, preparation classes are offered at Megamind locations in Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon to help prepare for the written response portion of the admission process to schools offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, International Business and Technology (IBT) program and Scitech program.Admissions to the program are based on previous class results and the written response test, with limited seats available.
WHAT SUBJECTS DO YOU TUTOR?
We offer tutoring in all subjects from JK to Grade 12.
DO YOU OFFER FRENCH LANGUAGE PROGRAMS?
Yes, we have qualified tutors to teach French reading and writing.
WHAT KIND OF TUTORING DO YOU OFFER?
We offer both one on one tutoring and group tutoring.
Our groups never exceed four students.
DO YOU OFFER EQAO & OSSLT PREP COURSES?
Yes, we offer EQAO and OSSLT preparation courses

WHAT KIND OF TRAINING DO MEGAMIND TUTORS HAVE?
Megamind’s tutors are highly qualified and committed Ontario certified teachers or recent university graduates. Our tutors possess outstanding teaching and communication skills to relate to the learning needs of your child.
WHAT MAKES MEGAMIND'S TUTORING SO EFFICIENT?
We know that one size does not fit all, so at Megamind, we develop customized lesson plans tailored to the specific needs of each student.
HOW MANY HOURS DOES MY CHILD NEED PER WEEK?
We will recommend you the optimum number of tutoring hours for your child based on the actual requirements of the child, but you are free to choose the number of hours per week.
WHAT ARE THE TIMINGS FOR TUTORING?
We offer tutoring in the evening during weekdays and on Saturday morning.
DO I HAVE TO SIGN A CONTRACT?
No. We do not impose any long-term contracts with our clients.
CAN I CLAIM TUTORING EXPENSES ON MY TAX RETURNS?
